The John Deere company began introducing the 10 Series in 1960. The 8010 was the ""flagship"" of this series. Equipped with a 6-cylinder Detroit Diesel engine with 160 KW in combination with a 9-speed transmission, it was John Deere's first articulated tractor. Due to problems with the transmission, all 100 tractors built were brought back to the Waterloo plant were brought back to the Waterloo plant and rebuilt into the new Type 8020. A single example of the 8010 has survived to this day
