The Mercedes-Benz Citaro G, also known by the model code O530G, is an articulated bus from the Citaro family. It is available with three or four doors and with conventional diesel, compressed natural gas, and diesel-electric hybrid powertrains.
The Citaro G BlueTec Hybrid was unveiled in 2008 with full production commencing in 2009. The engine is mounted behind the rearmost axle on the left side and is connected to a generator. The centre and rear wheels are driven by four 80 kW electric hub motors. The air-conditioning compressor, power-steering pump, and air compressor are individually driven by an electric motor instead of belt driven by the engine. Lithium ion batteries are located on the roof ahead of the joint, and the cooling for the bus' systems is roof-mounted at the rear.
Daimler Buses North America had planned to market an articulated bus based on the Citaro G under the Orion brand. A 2007 Citaro G was imported for testing and demonstration. However, the Orion articulated bus never reached production.
