The Lotus Elan S3 was a car that entered production in 1966. It was designed by Ron Hickman and was the successor to the Lotus Elite, which was replaced in 1962. The Elan S3 was built with a backbone chassis instead of a monocoque, which was a first for a road car at the time. It also featured a fiberglass body and four-wheel independent suspension.
