On August 1, 2019, the film Fast and the Furious: Hobbs & Shaw was released , a spinoff of The Fast and The Furious saga , directed by David Leicht and written by Chris Morgan, and which portrays MI6 trying to locate a supervirus from a terrorist organization. To do so, they ask for help from Luke Hobbs, played by Dwayne Johnson, and Deckard Shaw, played by Jason Statham. One of the vehicles used by the protagonists is a heavily modified Peterbilt, which we present today.
Based on the chassis of a 1983 Chevrolet Suburban, it was fitted with the cabin of a 1966 Peterbilt. Powering this colossus is a 6.2L LS3 V8 engine, with power in the order of 525hp at 5,900rpm and torque of over 550Nm at 4,600rpm. All these numbers are sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed semi-automatic gearbox and a Currie axle with Detroit Locker self-locking. It is also equipped with four-wheel independent suspension, with King adjustable shock absorbers with external reservoir, and disc brakes also on all four wheels.
It is worth noting that the two Turbonetics turbos mounted on the side of the truck are not functional, they are only mounted there for aesthetic reasons, as are the two exhausts. The LS3 engine remains naturally aspirated and the exhaust system is located in the lower part of the car.
This Peterbilt was built solely for the purpose of being used in the film and cost around 285 thousand dollars, something like 260 thousand euros. Despite the modifications, it is fully functional and is legal to drive on public roads. After its use in the film, it was used for promotional events and driven by Dwayne Johnson himself at the premiere of the film.
On November 7, 2023, it was sold at an auction on the Bring a Trailer platform, for 106 thousand dollars, around 97 thousand euros.
