Massport Fire Rescue maintains three emergency response facilities at Boston-Logan International Airport. Fire Headquarters is a 50,000 square foot, 10 apparatus bay station with direct access to both the secure airfield and public street side. Station 2 is a two bay station located on the opposite side of the airfield and public street side of the airfield to provide optimum response times to all areas of the runway system. The third facility is the Marine Unit, located in the Jeffrey's Point section of Boston's inner harbor. Here the 6,000GPM Fireboat 'MV Howard W. Fitzpatrick' and the departments fast rescue boats stand ready to respond.
There are 86 uniformed men and women sworn to respond to emergencies and protect the 25 million passengers that travel through Boston Logan each year. The department responds to approximately 3,4000 emergency calls annually. The calls are from a variety of categories including aircraft, medical aid, structural, vehicle accidents, marine response, hazardous materials and mutual aid.
Boston-Logan International Airport is a FAA Certificated 'Index E' airport with 5 runways and situated on 2400 acres of land in East Boston Massachusetts and is surrounded on 3 sides by the Boston Harbor. It is owned and operated by the Massachusetts Port Authority which also operates the Hanscom Field in Bedford Massachusetts along with a number of Maritime Facilities on Boston Harbor.
