The fair has its origins in the “1. German People's Show for Fire Protection and Rescue ”, which was carried out in 1935 by the NSDAP Reich leadership and the Interior , Propaganda and Reich Aviation Ministry in Dresden. A contest of the Dresden urban exhibition Office led to the name "The Red Rooster". The winner was the Dresden painter and graphic artist Helmut Müller-Molo.
