Not everyone may know the man, but most certainly know his work. George Barris was the iconic Hollywood custom car builder behind such creations like the original Batmobile and KITT from "Knight Rider." But what did Barris personally own and drive? What were his tastes? This 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS provides answers.  Barris bought the car as a personal indulgence after years of hard work, but he simply couldn't leave his new prancing horse alone.

No way could it remain stock. So he set about making some modifications. For starters, the front and rear fenders have been flared in order to accommodate extra-wide wheels and tires. The pop-up headlights were shaved and replaced by driving lights behind the amber covers, and the headlamps were relocated to the grille below the bumper. Barris also fabricated a deep chin spoiler as well as a custom grille and spoiler out back. The car was then finished in two-tone gold and brown with Italian tricolore stripes and gold leaf pinstripe detailing on the upper bodywork. A set of BBS RS alloy wheels were also added. Of course Barris couldn't leave the interior alone either.

The seats were reupholstered and a fully customized digital instrument pod and center console were installed. Yes, those are LED lights set in custom-made wood panels. Along with the car phone, Sony television, Kenwood audio system, backup camera (yes, really!) and a security key pad, Barris certainly had an eye for predicting the future of car amenities. This 308 GTS has a total of 8,000 miles on its clock and it recently received some minor work to keep it in proper shape. Sadly, Barris passed away in late 2015, but his memory very much lives on.
